So. I was looking through to favorites of the favorites of someone that added my work to favorites, and I saw a photographer I liked. [link] So anyway... I'm checking out their gallery and I find a photo I like. Getting to to subject now. <rant> I'm reading the comments for it, and I notice that some people are serious assholes. Honestly. Criticism is fine and all, but there should be no reason that someone actively attack the model. I'm about 99.5% positive that none of the commenters would walk up to this girl and say to her face "Your effin skinny. Eat a burger." Or. "OMG your body is scary."
Yet I'm sure she is curious as to what people say about her so she more than likely checks deviations that contain her. So they may as well have just walked up to her in person and slapped her in the face. That really ticks me off. I understand this is the internet, and people will do what they want, but still... I wish I could find the posters in person, and tell them that they are fat and ugly, or thin and sickly, or that looking at them makes me violently ill and see how they take it! Sheesh. </rant>
Incase you can't be bothered to click the link, and are curious. Here are some of the comments.

Holy jesus christ, that is disgusting.
I normally wouldn't say anything like that, but this girl is clearly malnourished!!
(if I was the model I'd burn down ~eileenbeans house... Auhg! Angry! Wonder how she'd feel if I went to her page and said "Wow. Why would you post pictures of such an ugly baby?")

Am I the only one who thinks she's so skinny it's scary to look at?! O:
=supergirliedork Jan 16, 2006, 8:25:33 PM
nope, you aren't. I hope she is naturally that thin, otherwise poor thing.
*Denoyelle Apr 25, 2005, 3:46:57 AM
OMG! Can someone please give her a burger or something?!
~iownavampire Nov 7, 2005, 1:39:14 AM

Secondly, anorexia nervosa, which is usually the condition associated with being severely underweight, is a psychological disorder. These people have such an ingrained low self-esteem that they CANNOT ingest food without months and months of rigorous mental retraining. Say you have a dog, and every time the dog goes to eat something, you beat it. The dog, through classical conditioning, associates food with being beaten, and therefore stops eating altogether eventually. Since there's no way for it to experience the extinction phase, it never knows when you plan to let it eat, and it never eats again even if you put a whole pile of meat in front of it. This is similar to the effect anorexia has on eating habits, and telling someone to "go eat a cheeseburger" is not only insensitive, but it's pointless because they've trained themselves to not be able to tolerate food.
Bah. Idiots, all of them. I'm going to read that link you gave now.

98% of the DA population appears to buy into bogus, improperly-gathered statistics like these. If you're one of the 2% that doesn't, you're lying.
